Woman Of Worth Wednesday meet Ms. Chantel Jackson, M.Ed

My name is Chantel Jackson, but everyone calls me Tookie. I was born in the beautiful Island of Trinidad and Tobago and migrated to the United States at the tender age of 8. When I first arrived here, the climate shocked me. I went from the tropics to wicked winter days. Aside from the weather, I was excited about all the possibilities "The Land of Opportunity" had in store for me. I attended Marymount Manhattan College and received my BA in English and Mathematics. In college, I was a mathematics tutor and loved every second of it. There, I decided to go back to school and get my masters in Math Education. Today I am an Educator to Middle Schoolers; their young minds contribute so much to our society and their spirits are so carefree. What I love most about working with the youth is seeing their transformations and knowing that I am a positive black woman mathematician in their lives. Aside from teaching, I’ve always been a lover of all things fashion. Nothing brings more joy to my life than searching for garments that are unique, durable and of great quality. I started Tookie's Bootiq to give the everyday girl pieces that will make her feel sexy, comfortable and fly. I love to make people feel their absolute best and look beautiful. Running a business is a lot of work, but it is worth the race. I always look back to the late Maya Angelou saying "stand up straight and realize who you are, that you tower over your circumstances." We should never feel defeated by our circumstances and through faith and mercy from God we can triumph over anything.
